Obituary of Janet Jo An Wallack

Garnerville, NY

Mrs. Janet Wallack, a long-time resident of Garnerville, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2022, at home in Garnerville, NY surrounded by loved ones. She was 74. The daughter of the late John Semenowitz and Elsie Dombkowski Semenowitz, Janet was born on September 19, 1947, in Bronx, NY.

Janet grew up in the Bronx. In her younger years she enjoyed spending time with friends at Orchard Beach. She also enjoyed taking the cousins to the Bronx Zoo. When she moved to Garnerville with her husband and two children she enjoyed getting together with the neighbors to make instant coffee and sit around the table and chat for hours. She enjoyed the annual trips to Seaside Heights boardwalk with the family. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, reading, baking and cooking new recipes. 

She started her career working at the telephone company.  She always said she regrated never going back.  She took a break from the workforce for several years to be a stay-at-home mom.  After the birth of her third child, she returned to the workforce where she worked in various job capacities to include, internal control manager, clerical, and switchboard operator.  She went back to school at Dominican College to further her education.  She closed out her working career as a switchboard operator at the East Ramapo Central School District. 

Janet is survived by her daughters, Johanna Smith; Ivonna (James) Freeman.  Her grandchildren, Rachel Smith; Christopher and Jessica Freeman.  She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janet is predeceased by her beloved husband Charles Wallack of 50 years, son John Heiloo and her brother Paul Semenowitz.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2022, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the TJ McGowan Son's Funeral Home, 133 Broadway, Haverstraw, NY 10927. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 18, 2022, at 10:00am at St. Peter's R.C. Church, 115 Broadway in Haverstraw. Burial will immediately follow at the All Faith's Cemetery, 6729 Metropolitan Ave, Middle Village, NY 11379.
