Obituary of Paul John Giampietro
Greenwood Lake, NY
Paul John Giampietro, (Paulie - not his favorite name, but he knew it meant love and embraced it), a devoted husband “Boss”, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, entered into final rest peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at Ardie R Copas State Veterans Nursing Home. He spent his final days with his daughters by his side listening to some of his favorite music. The son of the late Leonard and Mary Giampietro, he was born on April 17, 1933 in Ossining, NY. He was his Mama’s “baby”, having 8 older siblings, all have predeceased him. His family eventually moved to Brooklyn, NY where he grew up. He moved to Greenwood Lake, NY in 1965 with his wife and two daughters.
He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was always happy telling stories of how he designed and built plastic bag machines, a career that took him all over the world. There was always a surplus of plastic bags in his home as well as in his relative’s homes. He was a proud member of the Greenwood Elks Lodge #2067 and The American Legion.
On April 14, 1956, he married his “Babe and Honey”, Dorothy/Sissy who predeceased him in 2012. He leaves behind his daughter Maria and her husband, John Gendwila; his daughter Paula and her husband, Wayne Russo and their children, his twin grandchildren, Joseph Paul and Alexa Dorelle; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and “sisters and brothers” from his wife’s family. He loved each and everyone of them so very much.
He was a large man, with a tough guy attitude, but really was just a softy with a big heart. Shhhh, don’t tell him that we all knew the real truth. See you on the other side, Daddy. Give Mommy a hug from us.
He is gone by David Harkins: You can shed tears that he is gone; Or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back; Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left. Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him; Or you can be full of the love that you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday; Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him and only that he is gone; Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back; Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
